Pisa & Lucca Day Trip from Florence Tour Itinerary

Recognised for their remarkable collection of ancient architecture, visiting the cities of Pisa and Lucca is an exciting way to explore some incredibly historic sites within the heart of Tuscany.

Led by a knowledgeable and professional tour guide, your day begins in Florence as we make an early getaway destined for Pisa. Once we arrive, you’ll make your way to the spectacular Piazza dei Miracoli, one of the finest architectural complexes found anywhere around the globe. It’s home to an array of white marble masterpieces, including the 12th-century Baptistery and the world-famous Leaning Tower. You’ll also get to take a guided tour of the Pisa Cathedral, a majestic medieval Roman Catholic structure that’s celebrated as a landmark of Pisan Romanesque architecture.

Following your exploration of the cathedral, you’ll have plenty of free time to discover the nearby boutiques and cafes where you can rest with a perfectly made espresso. We’ll then depart for Lucca, a city that’s famous for its city walls that feature soaring gates and ramparts, which date back hundreds of years. These days, many of the city walls have become overrun with lush green lawns and trees making for a delightful stroll. Follow your guide along these picturesque walls and soak up the great vantage points on offer that look over the city. You’ll also get the chance to dive into the charming old town center and roam its tight network of cobblestone streets.

As you explore Lucca, you’ll get to experience many of the city’s most renowned attractions, including the Anfiteatro Square, the Guinigi Tower and the San Martino Cathedral. There’s also sufficient opportunity to wander into the many antique shops where you can buy a keepsake to remember your special time here. Before our tour comes to an end, we’ll make time for a tasting of Buccellato – a sweet cake that’s popular throughout the Lucca region. As the locals say: “those who come to Lucca without eating the Buccellato is like they have never been there!”
